Georgianne Hill never sang on stage until she moved to The Villages four years ago. Now she just landed a gig in Las Vegas.
It’s another example of how The Villages can give singers – or anyone else – a second chance to pursue their dreams.
“Believe me, I never thought that I would be singing in Las Vegas,” Hill said this week. “For me, this is a dream come true. It’s the next step in my career.”
Hill’s career has been booming the past year. She often appears locally in a Cher tribute how, and bears a remarkable resemblance to the famed singer. Hill will co-star with Andy Malinosky in the Broadway Bound Players stage production “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.” It will run Nov. 17-19 at the Savannah Center. In a few weeks, Hill will head to Orlando with her Cher act to audition for talent scouts looking for tribute acts.
But Hill is leaving Cher back home when she heads to Vegas Oct. 3. She will appear with singer Gene Ferrari and an 11-piece orchestra at a Vegas supper club.
“I’m not doing Cher, this will be me,” said Hill, who comes from Buffalo, N.Y. “I just want to put myself out there and show people how I can sing.”
Hill and Ferrari have occasionally appeared in The Villages in the past few years, doing shows at The Church on the Square and other venues.
But now it’s Viva Las Vegas.
“I’m nervous and excited but I’m ready,” Hill said. “And I can’t wait to sing there.”
